Shantungosaurus was a genus of Saurolophine hadrosaurid from the Campanian epoch of the Cretaceous period. It was one of the largest known ornithischians. Shantungosaurus was known from many disarticulated bones from China.

It was a flat-headed Hadrosaur, much like its North American relative Edmontosaurus, and lived like other hadrosaurs. It had half a thousand small teeth packed around 1,500 used to process plants for efficient digestion. There were about 63 tooth sites on each jaw, and there were six teeth at each site. The teeth had serrated edges and acted as cutting blades that allowed it to cut through tough plant matter.

Shantungosaurus was a plant-eating dinosaur. Its beak was toothless and had a large hole near its nostrils or fleshy "pouch". They had inflated pouch that made sounds or attracted a mate. It had also used it to defend its territory.

Shantungosaurus means "Shandong lizard", it was 14.72 meters long, and the skull type is 1.63 meters. The weight of this dinosaur was estimated at 16 tons. It used its front and hind legs to walk, to escape from its enemy, the Tarbosaurus.
