Pelecanimimus was a genus of basal ornithomimosaurid dinosaur that lived in the Early Cretaceous of Spain. It was an omnivorous dinosaur that roamed around 135 and 125 million years ago. It was one of the earliest members of the superfamily Ornithomimosaur. The name means "pelican mimic" in reference to its long neck and throat pouch.
Surprisingly, it was discovered that it had a large number of teeth still present in its mouth, about two hundred and twenty in all. These teeth could be cut and torn but in later forms it was replaced by a keratinous beak that did much the same job. It had a very long, narrow skull and a small ridge on the back of its head.
It was a member of the Saurischia or "hip lizard" although Pelecanimimus was not closely related to lizards, it had similarly shaped pelvic bones. It ate both meat and plants; however, it possibly dived into the water to catch fish or other small aquatic vertebrates such as frogs.
Pelecanimimus was between 2 and 2.5 meters long, 1 meter high at the hips and weighed 220 pounds.
