Patagosaurus was an extinct genus of eusauropod dinosaur that lived in the Middle Jurassic in Patagonia, Argentina. Fossils were first found in deposits of the Cañadón Asfalto Formation some 165 to 161 million years ago. The name means "Patagonian lizard".
It was a large dinosaur of the long-necked Sauropoda group. It had a rather heavy build and a general appearance similar to Cetiosaurus, as well as other primitive eusauropods. It reached a length of 18 meters. It was a herbivorous dinosaur that had to eat many plants every day to maintain its large size. Its enemies were theropod dinosaurs. It walked on four legs, although it moved very slowly due to its great weight.
Patagosaurus was approximately 15.0 m long and weighed between 7.3 and 14.5 t; 7.1 and 14.3 tons long, about the same as two elephants when fully adult, although juveniles are known to have been much smaller.
It was a herbivorous dinosaur that had to eat many plants every day to maintain its large size.
The name Patagosaurus means "Patagonian lizard".
