Sinraptor was a genus of metriacanthosaurid theropod dinosaur that lived in the Middle Jurassic, 169-142 million years ago. It was a medium-sized theropod of Allosaurus-like structure. It was discovered during a joint Chinese-Canadian expedition and was named after the eminent Chinese paleontologist Dong Zhiming. The name Sinraptor means "Chinese thief or plunderer".
Sinraptor was a carnivore that probably hunted smaller dinosaurs and possibly young sauropods before they grew too large to be attacked. However, it was not the largest of the Asian theropods of the time; larger carnivores such as Yangchuanosaurus were the ones that could challenge it.
It reached a maximum size of 3 m in height and weighed 1,200 kg.
It was discovered during a joint Chinese-Canadian expedition and was named in honor of the eminent Chinese paleontologist Dong Zhiming.
