Dromaeosaurus was a carnivore that lived during the Late Cretaceous period. It lived between 80 and 72.8 million years ago, in Alberta, Canada and the western United States. The name comes from the Greek word k dromeus (δρομευς) meaning "runner" and sauros (σαυρος) meaning "lizard" or in abbreviated form "running lizard".

Dromaeosaurus was the size of a wolf, a small carnivore that measured about 2 m in length and 15 kg in weight. It had sharp teeth, and had a sharply curved "sickle claw" on each foot. It was powerfully built and probably excelled in short-distance running.

In 1969, the skull was described as relatively robust with a deep snout. It had a vein at the back of the head, the vena capitis dorsalis, which drained the front muscles of the neck through two long canals leading to the posterior surface of the brain. He had remarkably large eyes and clear vision. It had a good sense of smell and hearing. The tail was flexible, allowing it to be carried in a very high position.

What is the largest Dromaeosaurus?

Gregory S. Paul described Austroraptor as the largest dromaeosaur discovered in the southern hemisphere, estimated its length at 6 meters, its weight at 661,387 pounds, or 300 kilograms.
