Alvarezsaurus was a genus of small alvarezsaurid dinosaurs that lived in the Late Cretaceous in what is now Argentina. The fossils were found in the Bajo de la Carpa Formation and were named in 1991 by paleontologist José Bonaparte. The name means "Álvarez's lizard" in honor of the Argentine historian Gregorio Álvarez.
It was a small bird-like carnivore that hunted the Young Saltasaurus. They were bipedal dinosaurs that had a long tail and were known as fast runners. Their large toe with huge claws indicated that they fed mainly on insects. They were known to be one of the fierce groups of dinosaurs because despite their size, they used to feed on meat.
Alvarezsaurus is estimated to be about 1.4 meters long and weighed approximately 2.27-9.1 kg.
