Albertosaurus was a giant carnivorous dinosaur that lived a few million years before T-rex appeared. Albertosaurus means "Alberta lizard" in Greek, where many of its fossils have been discovered, and sarcophagus is the Greek word for "carnivore."

During its time, Albertosaurus sarcophagus was the top predator in Upper Cretaceous Canada. This ferocious carnivorous dinosaur was similar to Tyrannosaurus; both had reduced forelimbs and a large skull and jaws, although Albertosaurus was somewhat smaller. 

Albertosaurus had predatory behavior such as bipedal movement, bird-like hollow bones, tiny forearms, and moved quickly. Albertosaurus also had some key differences with Tyrannosaurus such as its skull was quite a bit thinner, and its teeth were not well adapted for bone crushing.

The Albertosaurus was somewhat smaller. Albertosaurus was about 9 meters long and a foot high at the hips and weighed up to 3 tons. The jaws of Albertosaurus possessed numerous large, sharp teeth; the lower jaw had 14 to 16 teeth; the upper jaw had 17 to 19 teeth, which were cropped and serrated. 

Albertosaurus lived in a semi-tropical environment with lots of vegetation. Albertosaurus would be hunted by prey much larger or equal to its size.
