Shamosaurus was an extinct genus of herbivorous basal ankylosaurid that lived during the Early Cretaceous. It was discovered at the Chamrin-Us site in Dornogovi Province in 1977 by a Soviet-Mongolian expedition. The name means "protected by a shield" in Latin, referring to the body armor.
It is a medium-sized ankylosaurid whose body length is estimated at 5 meters and weighed 2 t, according to Gregory S. Paul. It has an osteoderm on the roof of the skull and the scaly horns at the posterior corners of the skull were short and slightly rounded. It had a flat skull, with a sharp, oblique upper beak attached to the front. It was a herbivorous dinosaur that lacked teeth. It had armor on much of its body, mainly shields and nodules, with large spines in some cases.
