Sarcosaurus was a genus of basal neotropod dinosaur that lived during the Early Jurassic Hettangian-Sinemurian boundary. It was one of the earliest known Early Jurassic theropods about 199-194 million years ago. The fossils were found in the Lower Lias of England. In 1921, it was described by Charles William Andrew shortly after a partial skeleton was found by S.L. Wood near Barrow-on-Soar. The name means "meat crocodile" known as a competitor of the larger type of crocodile.
It was a bipedal predator that hunted small creatures for food. It was a fast runner, meaning it could catch small prey quickly. Like other dinosaurs, it reproduced by laying eggs. Sarcosaurus was about 3.5 m long and weighed no more than 50-60 kg.
