Piatnitzkysaurus was a genus of megalosauroid theropod dinosaur that lived during the middle part of the Jurassic period some 166 to 164 million years ago. In 1979, it was described by Joseph Bonaparte and named after a Russian-born Argentine geologist, Alexander Matveievich Piatnitzky.

It was a relatively poorly built medium-sized dinosaur that bears a general resemblance to the theropod Allosaurus. It had powerful hind legs with four toes on each foot. It had stout arms, a shorter and wider body.

Compared to Allosaurus, it has shorter forelimbs. It was an agile predator that hunted other small dinosaurs and possibly even those slightly larger than itself.

Piatnitzkysaurus was about 4.3 meters long and weighed about 450 kilograms.
