Thecodontosaurus was a genus of herbivorous basal sauropodomorph sauropodomorph dinosaur that lived in the late Triassic period. Fossils were found mainly in Triassic "fissure fillings" in southern England and Wales. The name means "hollow-toothed lizard". It was the earliest known representative of the sauropodomorph dinosaurs.
It was a small bipedal dinosaur about 2 meters long. It had a relatively short neck supporting a rather large skull with rather large eyes. Its jaws contained many small to medium-sized, serrated, leaf-shaped teeth used for crushing plants. The hands and feet had five digits each, and their hands were long and relatively narrow with an extended claw on each. The forelimbs were much shorter than the legs; its tail was much longer than the head, neck, and body combined.
It is estimated that Tecodontosaurus weighed 11 kg.
