Heyuannia was a genus of oviraptorid dinosaurs that lived during the Late Cretaceous in China. In 2002, it was named and described by Lü Junchang. The generic name refers to the city of Heyuan, and the specific name honors Huang Dong, director of the Heyuan Museum. It was the first oviraptorid discovered within the borders of mainland China, specifically in Guangdong Province.
It is a medium-sized oviraptorid, estimated to be 1.5 meters long, and weighed 20 kg. It had a toothless skull and a relatively short steep snout. It had very short arms and fingers, and its first digit was reduced. It was an omnivorous bird-like dinosaur, characterized by parrot-like beaks and, in some cases, elaborate crests. It was probably feathered but flightless and had a flexible and robust tail.
Heyuannia may have been an omnivore who may have eaten eggs, or fed on fish and shellfish.
