Torosaurus was a horned dinosaur skeleton that originated in the Late Cretaceous in North America. Originally thought to be a young adult Triceratops, but later named Torosaurus as another large three-horned dinosaur, but with a longer frill pierced by two round holes, paleontologist Othniel Charles Marsh.

Torosaurus means "pierced lizard" because of its large openings in its frill. It was an herbivorous dinosaur that lived between 68 and 66 million years ago. It was discovered in the western interior of North America as far south as Texas.

Torosaurus possessed one of the largest skulls of any known land animal on the planet. It reached approximately 2.77 meters in length. The size of this dinosaur measured about 8 to 9 meters long and weighed four to six tons.

Since the end of the 19th century, Triceratops and Torosaurus were considered two different types of dinosaurs. Thanks to its skull, which attributed a great impact on the study between these two dinosaurs. Torosaurus had an elongated frill with large openings, the presence of five or more pairs of hornets on the back of the frill, and long scaly bones of the frill with a depression on its upper surface.

In 2010, a study of the histology of the fossil bones combined with an investigation of the shape of the frill concluded that Torosaurus may have represented the mature form of Triceratops, with Torosaurus being the adult version of Triceratops.

However, paleontologists John Scannella and Jack Horner said that Triceratops and Torosaurus are the same dinosaurs in different stages of growth.

Yes, they are! A recent study shows that Triceratops and Torosaurus were the same dinosaurs at different stages of growth. Triceratops had a three-horned skull with a fairly short frill, while Torosaurus had a much larger frill with two large holes through it.
After years of debate over Triceratops and torosaurus, new studies were published in 2010 that said Triceratops was simply the juvenile form of the torosaur. It was according to John Scannella and Jack Horner after discovering that its horns changed as the animal aged.
No! Between these two horned dinosaurs, Torosaurus was large compared to Triceratops because of the elongated fringe, especially the length of the skull is considerable.
Torosaurus means "perforated lizard" due to its large openings in its frill.
