Shanag was a genus of dromaeosaurid theropod dinosaur that lived in the Early Cretaceous Period in what is now Mongolia. Its generic name refers to the black-hatted dancers of the Buddhist Cham dance, and the specific name refers to the Ashile Formation, the ancient name for the layers where Shanag was found. In 2007, Alan Turner, Sunny Hai-Ching Hwang and Mark Norell named and described it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was a small to medium-sized feathered carnivore that could run quickly. It had a relatively large skull, serrated teeth, narrow snout and forward-facing eyes that indicated some binocular vision. It has an S-curved neck, and its trunk was relatively short and deep. Its feet carried a large recurved claw on the second toe. The tail was thin and long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
