Scelidosaurus was a genus of ornithischian armored herbivorous herbivorous dinosaurs that lived during the Early Jurassic period. The name means "limbed lizard" inspired by its pillar-shaped legs, it also comes from the Greek word lis/σκελίς meaning "cow rib" and sauros/σαυρος meaning "lizard". The preserved fossils were found near Charmouth in Dorset, England. It was the most complete dinosaur found in the British Isles.

Scelidosaurus was the oldest known and the most "primitive" of the tylophores. To differentiate this dinosaur was its armored body. Along with the back of these dinosaurs, it comes with rows of bony, keeled or ridged scales or known as shields formed by short, sharp spikes. In addition, it has rows of oval-shaped scales equipped with small knob-like projections along its body. The jaws contained large, slightly inwardly curved teeth designed to cut tough plant matter. Their hind limbs were longer than their forelimbs.

It stood on four legs, also known as a quadruped. However, evidence shows that it could stand on its two hind legs when necessary. It could also move quickly compared to other quadrupedal dinosaurs. Scelidosaurus reproduced by laying eggs like all dinosaurs.

The Scelidosaurus reached a length of up to 13 feet and weighed 270 kg.
