Iguanodon was a large, bulky herbivore that lived in the early Cretaceous period, about 125 million years ago. It was discovered in 1822 by Gideon and Mary Ann Mantell and was the second dinosaur formally named after Megalosaurus. The name Iguanodon means "Iguana Tooth" because its teeth resembled those of today's iguanas. They grew about 12 meters long and weighed about 3.5 tons like a pickup truck. Even at this immense size, however, they could still run about 14 miles per hour.

It belonged to a giant plant-eating reptile; it had a very long little finger that it used to pick up food. They also ate fruit or seeds. Iguanodon had spikes on the top to help them stab food or to protect themselves from predators. They walked on four or two legs as their arms were only 25% shorter than their legs.

In addition, its thumb barbs were attractive to females during mating season. It had a thin skull and a long tail.

Fossils had been found in Africa and North America, but Iguanodons lived in Europe.
