Homalocephalus was a genus of dinosaur belonging to the pachycephalosaur family that lived during the Late Cretaceous period. It lived around 83.6 million years ago - 66 million years ago, towards the end of the Mesozoic, the Age of Reptiles. Its name means \"even-headed\" and refers to the fact that this pachycephalosaur did not have a dome on the top of its skull.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unlike most pachycephalosaurs, it had a flat head of limited but very good material. However, it was missing a single skull in front of the snout, but otherwise complete. This discovery resulted in the animal being a flat, thick-headed reptile. At the back of its skull was high and hung slightly over the neck. On both sides of the skull, it was slightly thickened and expanded. It had spikes, protuberances and ridges of bone on the top, cheek region and back of the skull. It also had large eye sockets, meaning it had good vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It lived in a small group of dinosaur herds in coastal and highland regions. However, it was only a theory, as no Homalocephale bone beds were found. It would either run or hit its side when threatened by other dinosaurs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Ed Colbert, in 1955, their thick skulls were used for ramming rivals during mating, dominance combat, mate attraction and as a last defense against predators. This theory was argued by Mark Goodwin, knowing that the thick skull bone was not rigid and solid, but porous and brittle when subjected to extreme pressure. Goodwin asserted that the defense mechanism of the Pachycephalosaurus was (flank-back) or overlapping to the sides of other animals rather than to their heads. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a herbivore, therefore, it ate soft plants, fruits and seeds. Its teeth were small and leaf-shaped. It also had leaf-shaped teeth, short forelimbs and a stiff tail for balance. It walked on two legs and moderated fast dinosaurs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The homalocephalus grew to 1.5 meters long and weighed about 43 kg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
