The guanlong was a genus of extinct proceratosaurian tyrannosauroid that lived 160 million years ago in the Oxfordian stage of the Late Jurassic period and inhabited Asia. The name means \"crown dragon,\" derived from the Chinese word guan, representing \"crown,\" and long, meaning \"dragon,\" on its striking head crest, the most elaborate of all known theropod dinosaurs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just so you know, Guanlong was one of the most primitive tyrannosaurs known. It lived before the T-Rex that hunted 95 million years ago. It belonged to the Proceratosaurus family. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guanlong was a medium-sized primitive tyrannosaur, although it was not a typical tyrannosaur; this creature can be easily grabbed and pulled away from its prey using its long arms and three-fingered hands. Features such as the shape of its teeth, skull and pelvic location happen to belong to the tyrannosaur superfamily. Like other theropods, it had feathers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It comes with a crest along its snout, from the nostrils to the eye sockets - the crest used in mating season to attract Guanlong females.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Guanlong lived in a forested environment; the climate was hot and humid in the summers and dry in the winters. It lived together with turtles, small mammals and dinosaurs such as large sauropods, ornithopods and small and large theropods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It hunted smaller dinosaurs, mammals and other animals or larger predators such as the allosaur Yangchuanosaurus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Guanlong was estimated to be 3 m long and weighed 125 kg as much as a large dog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
