Deinonychus is a long-clawed carnivorous dinosaur that is closely related to Velociraptor and flourished in western North America during the Early Cretaceous period (145.5 million to 99.6 million years ago). Deinonychus was bipedal, walked on two legs, and had three sharp, curved claws on its "hands" and a large claw on its hind legs.

Deinonychus used its 5-inch long sickle-shaped claw on the second toe of its hind foot to kill prey and protect itself from predators. Deinonychus was a fast hunter; its diets were based on various animals. Deinonychus was a fast animal thanks to its stiff tail and was able to run at six miles per hour when chasing prey.

The name Deinonychus or "terrible claw" refers to the giant, hooked claw on the back of its legs.

These dinosaurs share several characteristics with birds; it had feathers that could have helped speed it up to run, or keep it warm.

Deinonychus were quite short; they reached about 3.4 meters and weighed 73 kg. They had the same bite strength as an alligator and a mouthful of about 60 teeth.

Deinonychus could run at approximately six miles per hour when chasing prey, and it turns out that it was not as agile as other theropod dinosaurs, such as the spindly-legged ornithomids, or "bird mimics."
Yes, there were some juvenile individuals of Deinonychus that are capable of flight, but it is believed that they lost this ability as they matured into adults.
Yes, in fact, after so many years of unearthing information about Deinonychus, it was discovered that it was the first of the raptors known to have a nearly complete skeleton.
Deinonychus lived 15 to 108 million years ago throughout the Cretaceous period.
Deinonychus laid eggs in nests and was found on all white cliffs; it was often accompanied by multiple wild deinonychus to guard it from attackers.
Deinonychus have been found in several locations in North America, and lived in swamp or rainforest habitat.
