Brachylophosaurus was a member of the hadrosaur family of dinosaurs that lived at the end, 78 million years ago. In 1953, it was discovered and named by Charles Sternberg of Ottawa, Canada. The name means "short-crested lizard" in reference to its small crest. It was one of the most unusual duck-billed dinosaurs in the Late Cretaceous.

It had a flat, paddle-like plate on top of the skull that was used in shoving contests with other Brachylophosaurs. It was used to defend territory, to attract females, or as a display force. This behavior was similar to that of other hadrosaurs. Like other hadrosaurs, it had functional replacement teeth and a flared duck-like snout. It had many teeth behind its beak for efficient chewing, also common among ornithischian dinosaurs. It had a larger and broader upper beak than other duck-billed dinosaurs, while the lower jaw had a predentary bone covered by a horny beak. The horny beak was used to cut foliage from low branches and bushes. It had very long arms, although the reason for this is unknown.

Apart from the above, Brachylophosaurus was a typical hadrosaur that reached an adult length of 9 meters and weighed 7,000 kg.
