Early Jurassic sauropods are rare. Barapasaurus was the oldest known giant sauropod dinosaur that may have evolved from a sauropod ancestor, and lived at the same time as the last sauropod dinosaurs. However, Barapasaurus was quite advanced unlike the prosapods. It was as large as Diplodocus with slender limbs. Its vertebrae, pelvis and large size prove that it belongs to the sauropods. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Barapasaurus was a herbivorous or plant-eating dinosaur. It had spoon-shaped teeth with thick denticles used for growing vegetation. It had a long neck used for picking leaves from the treetops. The chewing teeth were probably larger and flattened for crushing food. Barapasaurus reached 14 meters in length, comparable to that of the later sauropods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
